Headshots : Marcus Viray-Hebrada
My coaching philosophy centers on valuing the process over the outcome. I believe every rep, action, and habit in practice is an opportunity for growth, and the effort put into each one directly shapes success both on and off the court.
I bring 15 years of coaching and 8 years of playing experience at the high school, college, and club levels. Over the years, I’ve led boys’ and girls’ teams to league and provincial championships while helping athletes develop their skills and passion for the game. Currently, I serve as an assistant coach with the Concordia University men’s volleyball team and recently assisted with Team Alberta’s boys’ volleyball program at the Alberta Training Center.
What I am most passionate about is helping players gain confidence, embrace challenges, and reach their full potential. This season, I’m excited to move up with the same age cohort from last year and build on their progress. I look forward to seeing them take on new challenges, grow as a team, and deepen their love for volleyball.
I like to help players improve their individual technical skills to better possess and control the ball. My goal is for them to progress with each practice, to better understand the game tactically, and to learn how to identify the weaknesses and strengths of teams—how to use them and how to counteract them. I also work to improve team play as a whole, because in volleyball the result depends on the team.
I have devoted my whole life to volleyball. Starting from the age of 13, I was a player on youth and student teams, and later a professional player in the setter position. Since 2010, I have combined my career as an athlete with coaching children at a sports school. I was also an assistant coach with the professional team in my city and with the Ukraine U-18 youth national team, as well as a head coach in the second professional leagues of Ukraine.
I believe that practice makes perfect, and effort drives improvement. With decades of experience playing competitive volleyball in various positions and over two decades of coaching junior high and high school teams, I’ve dedicated my life to this sport. I had the opportunity to serve as an assistant coach for the Pandas Adult team during the 2017-2018 season and coached at West Coast Volleyball Club in the 2020-2021 season. Currently, I’m leading the Volleyball Alberta Go Sports Tripleball program. I’m excited to be joining the FOGG coaching team and look forward to contributing to the development of our athletes.
