Headshots : Marcus Viray-Hebrada
Sports are about embracing fun, fitness, and friendship. It’s a place where players can grow as individuals, whether through good times or more challenging moments. As a coach, I strive to teach players to maintain a positive attitude, work hard, and become not only skilled athletes but also people of integrity, compassion, and honesty. I am an NCCP Level III coach and was the women’s head coach for Grant MacEwan University, leading the team to a Provincial Championship and a 2nd place finish at Nationals. I also served as an assistant coach for the U of A Pandas, where we won multiple National Championships. My coaching experience spans high school, junior high, and club teams, ranging from 13UM through 15UM. My playing career includes five years with the University of Calgary Dinos, where we won a National Championship, and professional volleyball in Switzerland with VBC Uni Bern. I also fell in love with beach volleyball, winning a Provincial Championship and finishing second at Nationals with my partner Julie Olfert. I’m excited to see our players improve their skills, build strong friendships, and have a blast at tournaments this season!
I have a passion for seeing kids succeed and helping them learn specific techniques that will elevate their game. For the past 25 years, working one-on-one with young athletes to find ways to improve their abilities and ultimately enjoy the sport and staying active has been an integral part of my life. As a former University of Alberta Golden Bear, I was proud to win a national championship with my team. I also had the honor of playing for the junior national team and was a member of the Red Deer College Kings. My coaching experience spans various camps, Team Alberta, and clubs, and I have served as the head coach of the Grand Prairie College Wolves. I’m passionate about introducing young athletes to the incredible sport of volleyball and highlighting how unique it is compared to other sports like hockey or basketball.
